James Bond actors have always been known to be in fairly good shape, but Daniel Craig certainly raised the bar when he appeared shirtless in his first 007 movie, Casino Royale. And thanks to a recent interview, we now know how he got the look that made people jealous or cry with pleasure 15 years ago.
The latest James Bond film, No Time To Die, breaks all sorts of box office records, but it’s true that even Daniel Craig’s swan song can’t come close to his performance in Casino Royale. Craig’s acting and physique peaked in this film, but it’s interesting that he wasn’t overly impressed with the latter and wanted him to work differently in preparation for his founding spy movie. .
This scene in Casino Royale of Craig walking to the shore is as iconic as it is sexy: his body glistening in the sun, his glowing pecs, his swollen shoulders. And while it’s not like Craig wasn’t a buff before – just remember that Venice Hotel scene from the 2001 Tomb Raider movie – he put on some more muscle mass to play the role of the legendary British spy. James Bond. Maybe a little too much, if you ask him.
In a recent interview with The Guardian, Craig answered questions from “readers” as esteemed as George Lazenby (former James Bond actor himself), Toni Collette (who was Craig’s co-star in “Knives Out”) and more. One of the questions came from rugby player Elliot Daly who asked Craig the question we all wanted to know the answer to: “What was his training plan for Casino Royale?”
In his response, Craig said his training for the film “wasn’t great” and the plan was to make him feel like he had just “come out of special forces.” They also wanted to “make him grow up” and truth be told, he got big, even according to himself.
Craig regrets, however, that he skipped cardio. “I wish I had spent more time running,” added Craig, “I got a little pumped up.” Glocked probably means stacked, torn, and polished, and it’s true; Craig looked a lot more bloated and bloated than any other Bond actor.
His abs were also visible but not in the manner of Cristiano Ronaldo. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with this look – we’re all different, and Craig’s example really shows how good-looking we can be, even without less than 10% body fat.
As to how he got so big, his answer was simple: “They were heavyweights.” It’s probably less shocking than learning that Henry Cavill’s favorite exercise is the back squat. Heavy weights, lots of time under tension, and constant training will help most people build muscle over time.
